مساله اصلی هرمنوتیک فلسفی، فهم است. اینکه فهم در چه بستری، چگونه و متاثر از چه مولفههایی تعین پیدا میکند. گادامر با تاکید بر سنت و تاریخ، این مولفههای تاثیرگذار را تشریح نموده و با بیان ویژگیهای هستیشناسانه فهم بشری بر کثرتمندی فهم، تاکید میکند. از این منظر رویکردهای سوبژکتیویستی و غیرکثرتگرا انکار میشوند. در این نوشتار برآنیم تا بر مبنای شاخصههای فرآیند فهم در رویکرد هرمنوتیکی گادامر یعنی تاریخمندی، کثرتمندی، واقعهمندی، کاربردمندی و زبانمندی، رابطه و نسبت آن را با تمامیتانگاری و کثرتانگاری سیاسی مورد بررسی قرار داده و همگرایی یا عدم سازش مبانی هرمنوتیک فلسفی با کثرتانگاری سیاسی به عنوان یک رویکرد کثرتگرا و واگرایی یا سازش هرمنوتیک فلسفی با تمامیتانگاری سیاسی به عنوان یک رویکرد غیرکثرتگرا را امکانسنجی کنیم. اگرچه گادامر را نمیتوان فیلسوف سیاسی تمامعیار دانست ولی میتوان براساس رویکرد هرمنوتیکی وی، نسبت میان نظامهای سیاسی و پایههای معرفتی آنها را بررسی و ارزیابی نمود.
