از دیدگاه فیلسوفان اسلامی بخصوص مشائیان، شناخت فعل نفس است نه بدن. برخلاف روند معمول فلسفی که ادراک را امری منفک از بدن می داند این مقاله به روش تحلیلی توصیفی، امکان و چگونگی تاثیر بدن بر شناخت را در بستر آموزههای فلسفی و طبی ابن سینا بررسی میکند. علیرغم دیدگاه ابن سینا در عدم عینیت نفس و بدن (دوئالیسم) و اینکه نفس فاعل اصلی شناخت معرفی شده است، باتوجه به نظرگاه وی در نحوه رابطه نفس و بدن، شناخت بدنمند این چنین تعریف میشود که در تمام مراتب ادراک، هرگونه تفاوت یا تغییر در بدنها منجر به تغییر در نفس و بالتبع تفاوت در شناخت آنها از معلوم واحد خواهد شد. با این وجود، شناخت بدنمند در نظام سینوی تفاوت ژرف و مهمی با دیدگاه فیزیکالیسم دارد و آن، مبدالمبادی بودن « نفس» در پیدایش ادراک است.
