رورتی در مقابل دیویدسن: نظریه‌ای معناشناختی براساس صدق

چکیده
نمونه­ای از تقابل رورتی با فلسفۀ تحلیلی، مخالفت او با کوشش دیویدسن برای طرح نظریه­ای معناشناختی بر اساس صدق است. رورتی، طبق رویکردی ضدمتافیزیکی به صدق، عقیده دارد عبارت «p صادق است» صرفاً تأیید ادعایی است که ما خود یا دیگران را در بیان آن موجه می­دانیم. اگرچه دیویدسن مخالف رویکرد متافیزیکی به صدق است، اما به تأسی از تعریفی تارسکیایی در باب صدق، تصوری قوی‌تر از آنچه رورتی دربارۀ صدق می­پذیرد را برای طرح نظریه­ای در باب معنا لازم می­داند. پاسخِ ویتگنشتاینیِ رورتی به دیویدسن این است که نه­تنها مراوادت گفتاریِ گوینده و مفسر، متوقف بر دانستن نظریه­ای معناشناختی بر اساس صدق نیست، بلکه کوشش برای گفتن چیزی بیشتر از آنچه در باب صدق می­توانیم بگوییم، ما را دچار سردرگمی­های سنت متافیزیکی می­کند. این مقاله، با استناد به نوشته­های دیویدسن، نشان می­دهد کوشش دیویدسن برای طرح نظریه­ای معناشناختی بر اساس صدق، او را ناگزیر به بیان تفاسیری متافیزیکی سوق می­دهد.
